'THIS IS MY HOME' - COMPOSING THE SONG

The Song Idea

How did the song come about ? Geoff says " Usually my songs are the result of 'lightbulb' moments.  These moments usually possessing a sense of certainty to them. A sense that they have meaning, a feeling or purpose worth conveying. I, like many of us,  was reading/viewing about the Ukrainian crisis and the concept of what home means to all of us came about and the tragedy and cruelty involved in a people being dispaced from and fighting to defend their home.

What comes first ?

Songwriting for me isn't a fixed form.at.

Sometimes words will come first , Maybe  a phrase from a thought. or feeling about something In this case, the title 'this is my home' sprang to mind.  Phrases have rhythms to them which can then be transformed into a melody to support the phrase.. To give it an emotional dynamic. Then we have to strart thinking about song verse lyrics ( words) which can then lead to more melodies. Then the backing mucsic/sounds that build the sonic picture of the story being told
